Everyone Non-Essential In The Public Sector Needs To Take A 30% Paycut

Image
The Coronavirus Coalition needs to get serious about distribution of the pain of (in my view) this ridiculous social, medical and economic experiment of shutting borders into New Zealand and sticking you all on home detention for "four" weeks. What they have effectively done is shut down the private sector in New Zealand with a few exceptions, and given their non-essential mates in the public sector (who are not essential and still hard at work in offices doing stuff), at least a four week paid vacation with total job security to date, at the end.   Who pays for this? That is right - the very people in the private sector the government has told cannot open for business. I don't care about the circumstances of this alleged crisis worldwide, if you as a government and a country tell private sector businesses they cannot operate for a period of time and close the borders so they effectively lose businesses and livelihoods overnight, you have to not only

Air New Zealand's Numbers Do Not Add Up

Image
Today frequent flyers received another email from the CEO of Air New Zealand Greg Foran. It was all prima facie rather blunt, but still full of spin.  The highlights: Before Covid-19, we had annual revenue of around $5.8 billion and made a profit of $374m in the last financial year. We also had around a billion dollars in the bank in case an unexpected event hit our business. The global reduction in air travel has hit Air New Zealand hard and we are earning less than $500 million revenue annually based on the current booking patterns. This means we are dealing with a significant reduction of over $5 billion in revenue per year. $5.8b less $5b = $800m in revenue expected per year?  At best? Or less than $500m? With $1b in reserves he has enough to carry the company for 2 months at annualised revenues of $5.8b, with another $900m added he has enough to carry it 2 more months without changing a thing and dumping any staff? Air New Zealand currently employs arou

If You Love New Zealand - Just Stay The F*** Away

Image
The second it was obvious that the "Coronavirus Coalition" was hell bent on closing the borders, every New Zealander overseas (and Winston Peters claimed there were 80,000) should not have rushed home. They should have decided right then and there, put your big girl or boy pants on, hit Air bnb and ignore Winston and stayed the f*** away.   Winston should have instead run a "It Is Ok To Stay The F*** Away" campaign, and even paid per person for people to do that.  It would have been cheaper than keeping the country in lockdown longer than necessary. It is not like the world is lacking in cheap accommodation options at present!  I did not fly back to partake in this ridiculous science and medical experiment.  First up I did not wish to be stuck in New Zealand for the next six months that it looks as though you may be at least, but also, I did not need to - so why use a seat up that someone who desperately needed to get back, could take.  I have not spent

The NZ Media Need To Cease To Be The Propaganda Wing Of "Coalition Coronavirus"

Image
There has NEVER in the history of New Zealand been a more crucial time to have a proper fourth estate. And to date we have yet to have one.  They have as a collective panicked, conformed and fallen in line in group think.  There has been zero critical thinking as they have huddled into their bubbles.  They need to harden the f*** up, stand up and apply some critical thinking into the situation we are now in.  Stop gushing at how exciting it is and how it is unprecedented, and actually look at how horrific it is in terms of the unfettered powers that politicians in western democracies worldwide now have regardless of their colours red, white or blue. It is quite clear that senior members have been given the wink, wink, nudge, nudge and privy to all sorts of information and mechanisms behind the scenes of Coalition Coronavirus.  Reprisals and threats by some have been made that businesses better behave else we will hunt you down later.  It is horrid vigilante stuff.  Numbers

So Why Aren't The Public Sector Workers On Your $585.50 a Week?

Image
Right now the private sector in New Zealand is having to take one up the right chook.  They wish to keep trading but a government state of emergency has been declared saying they cannot.  The government has decided their customers cannot come out and they cannot open.  There is nothing capitalist or free market about this decision.  Everyone would prefer to keep coming to work and keep trading with freedom of movement. To say "we are all socialists now" is a disgusting and desperate grab for political points and a massive own-goal as the very reason everyone needs to be effectively on welfare is that the State has stepped in and told business they cannot trade and workers they cannot work, people that they have no freedom to travel and trade and associate.  If everyone now is a socialist then they need to own the fact we have years of misery ahead if truly down this track. People currently not able to work, on home detention, all with uncertain futures, are

When Will The NZ Borders Open Again? Sir David Skegg All But Said A Year

Image
So now you are all “safely” tucked up in your blankies in "lockdown" in New Zealand (or whatever you call it), with the first month planned out for you all, has anyone contemplated with some critical thinking -  When will this all end? a) locking you in your homes b) locking New Zealand's borders c) What are the KPI's and targets for a) and b) to be lifted? Because there is no point locking the borders, eradicating "the virus", to then have "the virus" re-emerge and infect people who have been in "bubbles" is it? Winston Peters kindly and then very forcefully asked then directly told 80,000 New Zealanders overseas to all return home.  At once. That act alone has probably added weeks even months to the eradication process given the new cases coming in on planes.  That and it still seems that the focus for testing is on travellers but never at the border. The nicest and kindest thing you could do as a patriotic

Coronagate - Prince Charles Has The VIRUS!

Image
Here are Prince Charles and Camilla in 1992 - Tampaxgate Charles: "Oh god. I'll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!" Camilla: (Laughs.) "What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers?" (Both laugh). "Oh, you're going to come back as a pair of knickers." Charles: " Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck!" (Laughs.) Camilla: "You are a complete idiot!" (Laughs.) " Oh, what a wonderful idea !" This is Prince Charles and Camilla in 2020 - Coronagate Charles, the 71-year-old heir to the British throne, is suffering mild symptoms but “remains in good health,” according to a statement sent out Wednesday morning, which added that he and the Duchess of Cornwall are working from home at their base in Scotland. The duchess, 72, has also been tested but does not have the virus. Seems like they may have got a few years jump on the rest of us mastering se

Dear Leader's Best Line So Far

Jacinda Ardern had a cracker for the Nation today as some men and women face the most difficult time in their lives to date.  Nothing to do really with getting sick or losing their jobs, something far more horrid to ever think would happen: Actually having to stay at home 24/7.... With only each other ...... For a month.......   Maybe shock horror........ even with the kids. Here Dear Leader sounds like a marriage celebrant more than a PM: "If you live alone, but you have one person you have contact with it needs to be just that. A person you stay faithful to and they stay faithful to you in turn. If you have multiple contacts with others that is where the risk increases. " And she delivered it with such a dulcet understanding tone. Sounds also alot like an ad in the 80's for HIV when that was spreading. Of course none of that makes sense.  How can you live alone and have contact with another person unless they live alone and do not see anyone els

Self Isolation Guide - "Cometh The Hour - Cometh The Self-Isolation"

Image
I spend a very large percentage of  my time in this state as I travel around the world.  I have done so since I left New Zealand in 2003.  I have lived in many far flung places, few you would know without a Google Map. I have also spent months on end in fitness camps doing the same thing every day for months on end.  You are either good at this and you are an Island, or you are not.  I am exceptionally good and I say that with complete humility. If you are not as you have had people and support systems around you all your life, you are suddenly going to have to get used to it. About the only funny story I have is a friend had a terrible marriage and separated and moved out two weeks ago.  She is now in absolute ecstasy.  There will be many however who wish they were in the same boat at the thought of at least a month of this actually spending 24/7 with their partners and freaked out grumpy kids on top. Here are my tips: 1. Get a routine - do the same thing at the

When Leo Molloy Has To Police Your Laws You Know Something Is Wrong

Image
Eccentric bar mogul and often Agent Provocateur, Leo Molloy runs a bar and restaurant in Auckland called Headquarters.  It is not everyone's cup of tea and I suggest only turning left around and then right at the top of the stairs to avoid the west HQ which is at times a bogan zoo.  But those who like it love it.  It has an excellent sense of community and the staff are all wonderful even when they can get a bit scratchy. Anyway, behind all the self-brand management he is a G.C and loves New Zealand and his punters. So when his protests at shutting down Auckland were in vain he decided to play Policeman and tell the punters what is really happening in Auckland right now and how hypocritical and bloody useless the enforcement of laws has become. If you really think tourists are going to self-isolate, you're dreaming.  You always were dreaming.  Sit in a hotel room for 14 days? Come on. The only countries who have successfully managed this have been ones who prov

Quarantining When You Are Rich vs Poor

Image
Right now the white panic has called for instant level 4 quarantine style lockdowns.   One of the leading proponents in New Zealand is last weeks co-Wanker of The Week , Anna Mowbray, billionaire Chinese toymaker. Here is Anna enjoying her self-isolation in what looks like the former Kim Dot Com mansion grounds they now own. It seems - with her children! (who I won't post a picture of) The rich have all prepared, stockpiled and have decided on their selection of homes including beach houses, in which best to hunker down and stay away when the inevitable happens.  They want it to happen sooner than later of course and do not mind being away weeks even months.  Which is fine. But imagine quarantine style lockdowns here in a studio flat in Auckland.  For an indefinite time.   This is why Italian style has to be the last resort.   The mental health concerns of shutting people away in tiny homes and apartments has to be greater in my

Viva La Revolution - Te Whānau-ā-Apanui!!!

Image
This made my day and I announce Rawiri Waititi as the Leader of the Revolution against this  batshit crazy lockdown. "The evidence that we have in regards to the impact that the influenza had on our people in 1918 and what we're trying to do is mitigate the risk of that happening again," says iwi leader Rawiri Waititi. "It had catastrophic implications on our people." The iwi is terrified the worst could happen if COVID-19 spreads to their community. They plan to shut off State Highway 35, only allowing access for residents. Police have issued a statement saying: "We know the community is very concerned about COVID-19, but this is illegal." The Prime Minister preferring to stress the risks that every community is running. But her message was listen to the advice from health authorities, and do not panic. " Just think about your grandparents, think about someone in your family group or friendship group who might have compromised im

Mary Holm - You're Fired

Image
We are not even in the middle of the largest economic crisis in human history and The NZ Herald pumps out this headline: I have already been in trouble today after a call on car speakerphone where it appears my four year old niece has learned the f word from me (more inevitable than her catching Coronavirus). But FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Any banker and I repeat, writing new lending to homeowners, especially first home buyers for the last year needs to be in jail for misusing trusting depositors.  Any person pumping first home buyers right now to go buy that home they have always aspired to get, is batshit crazy and should be in the cell next to them.  The banks should be focusing on picking winners and supporting them with finance at this point in the commercial lending side. Here is what Mary should have advised. COMMENT: Q: My husband and I were planning to buy our first home in Auckland this year before plans to have a baby. We are using a broker, have pre-approval

Viva La Revolution California - The World Is Watching

Image
The moment has come. When have we become so afraid of death that we have become afraid to actually live?   Because it is happening right now all across the world. It is time for Americans and the great State of California to step up, lead the way and fight for the rights and freedoms that we all cherish. The Mainland Chinese have got through Coronavirus because the people are used to in their history, not having rights and freedoms, so it is not an adjustment for their mindset.  They are also I suspect lying about being "cured" suddenly and the slowdown or flattening of their curve.  Let them into the wild of the world again to buy assets now at bottom dollar prices, and there will be a second and third wave of spreading this.  The virus was contained we are told at least in terms of mass death to Hubei Province, Guangdong and Zhejiang.  Restricting the movement of people should only make us realise how important it is to us.  The right to go and me
