Cheer Up Shane, Helen Clark Hated You Too!

Image
Shane Te Pou/Phillips has done his final gob off for the year whining about something Judith Collins said to him. From reading his piece twice I couldn’t understand what his problem with Crusher actually is.  After all she is an opposition politician. It’s not like she was on the same team and banned him from working in the Labour Party for being too unsuitable to be in the premises of Parliament? The man vetoed by Prime Minister Helen Clark as an executive assistant to Maori Affairs Minister Dover Samuels says he is stunned by the move. Shane Te Pou said he had no idea that Helen Clark would take the action and the effects had been devastating. "It's had a huge effect on my family. I made my mistakes in the past but I have done nothing illegal. I thought I had paid my dues and I worked my butt off to ensure that Dover won the Tai Tokerau seat," he said. A very unusual column.   Shane loves a bit of political biff, he is frequently baiting centre right politicians and an

The Warehouse Finally Put Their Big Boy Pants On

Image
Isn't that nice to end the year on. Sales in the first quarter of the new financial year for the group increased by 6.3 per cent and now stand up 6.6 per cent year to date compared to the same period last year. The Warehouse, that multi-millionaire Stephen Tindall owns almost 50% of, has repaid your cash. I have posted on this issue before here. They have had yet another bumper year after shedding 1080 jobs and closing stores.

Please Do Not Give Us A False Dawn

There’s nothing in the world I love more than Cricket. I will write more about this when I have to tell you all about how ghastly 2020 has been. It brings me however total joy today that currently we have one of the world’s three best batsmen in our ranks in Kane Williamson. Kohli and Smith being interchangeable.  I did not even comment when Kane (cough) left the team to watch his missus pop out a baby. I mean what does a man do in this situation? Clap? Pay the Bill? In the 70’s I’m sure my father was out milking cows as this happened or doing other suitably malestuff, I never asked what happened, I just assumed this and could not care less. There’s nothing after all he could have contributed of any use at all.  If he was a world class cricketer I would have asked him when I was old enough to understand, just wtf was he thinking staying there with my mother watching the pain of child birth while the nation needed him in more pressing matters. Especially if I was sitting in a late model

No Rod Duke - You Are Just A Bit Of A C***

Image
Everyone clicking here knows I am a far-right, filthy capitalist, extremist blogger.  Happy to wear that tag. It’s always good for a broader education to put yourself in the shoes of the unions we have to oppose the political philosophies of. I’m open to reading everything on the internet.  I have told you before that I read everything I can. If I claim as an insult that someone is a dirty capitalist c***. Then I am (not) sorry. He or she is.  I have never seen a better example than Rod Duke.  I have internationally seen them and I’ve worked and then not worked for them. Rod Duke however is absolutely outrageous to the point I was checking this was all a parody. This has to be the worst example I’ve seen in New Zealand and we are looking at many examples dating through the Fay Richwhite years.  If I worked for Rod Duke right now I would be looking to walk out forthwith. Making sure he paid the final fee of course.  He is just dreadful. How can people turn up to work tomorrow after r

No One Cares About Yachting - Yet Everyone Will Watch Tomorrow

Image
Tomorrow is the day everyone in New Zealand dusts off their yachting expertise and pretends to be a supporter of Emirates Team New Zealand. Everyone will stop whinging about how much the event cost.  They will stop whinging about Grant Dalton. And they will once again be glued to every move on the water every afternoon for the foreseeable future. It is a boring ritual by New Zealand and New Zealanders of being in and out of love with yachting.  Of pretending to not like it for every period in time other than the event of the AC where the '"team of five million" slap on their red socks and find villains in Spithill and the dull Dean Barker. This year will be particularly obscene as the "haves" will be glowing more than ever in Auckland smugly in their newly unrealised wealth in their one or many homes , while the poverty action groups pretend that Jacinda Ardern has not walked on water and eliminated child poverty and the need for food banks. Confused? Yes you wi

Israel Adesanya And Friends Dare Question The Team of Five Million

This was always going to happen.  Izzy has had enough.    I have posted on him before. In an excellent rant, he raises some great points.  However is using the mental health of others to protect his own wholesomeness.  The boys have had enough of this shit and are not going to take it anymore. In doing so has highlighted a burning question I have been asking - how can the Pakistan and West Indian cricket teams be asked to isolate and away from each other when these athletes are practising their MMA in a room together!  In November I wrote: They all went to Abu Dhabi for championship fights and arrived back in New Zealand at the start of October.  I do not quite know how this worked with isolation and the rules, but they seem to have all had special treatment.  They were not isolating in a room solo that is for sure.  They had exercise and training equipment right down to the bikes.  I digress. If MMA athletes can train in a "bubble" then why cannot all sportspeople?  A journa

Are Poto's Po Po Letting Gangs Operate At The Viaduct?

Image
The sort of news you do not need with the Americas Cup and end of year boozefests about to commence. Police have described the shooting, which took place at Dr Rudi's bar in the Viaduct in the early hours of Sunday, December 6, as a domestic incident.  " [The man] was there with his side-missus and then his main baby mamma caught wind of it and came down and absolutely lost the plot and this all evolved," one source told the Herald.  "So the security made him and her leave, they kicked them both out and then within the space of less than three minutes the glass ceiling was [shot] over the escalator there and they just gapped it." Right because every angry lady with no gang connections whatsoever carries a gun to a bar. The Viaduct source also said "it was not the usual crowd down there" on the night of the shooting.  A separate source confirmed to the Herald that Hells Angels and Head Hunters gang members were in Dr Rudi's and witnessed the shoot

Astoria Closes - No Greater Symbol of 2020 Wellington

Image
First up it had Chinese offshore owners, a group in society known for a lot of things, good coffee and western cafe food are definitely not two of them: Founding owners Sue Dempsey and Janice Kirkwood wove themselves into the very fabric of the place, so when in 2016 they sold Astoria to the Yu Group, owned by China-based Yuteng Zheng, it could never stay the same. Wellington derangement syndrome: So why then is Yu Group closing the place down? Apparently because it can’t or won’t raise the price of their coffee.  No money in coffee? Tell that to the other 299 daytime cafes around Wellington.  Market saturation?  Never.  Wellington surely can support everyone opening a cafe!  Perhaps the Yu Group bought the place solely for cashflow in their portfolio? Underperformers are shut down. But no, we will leave the last word (as usual) to a public servant from the Ministry of Womens Affairs, Bindu Armstrong. "I just don't understand. It's always packed. I wouldn't mind payi

Mittens Has Redeemed Wellington

Image
Wellington is a cold, windy hell-hole of a place I am glad I have little excuse to travel to anymore.  Almost all of the people I like in Wellington have seen the light and moved far from it.  What remains is the largesse of the public service, smug trench coat wearing overpaid bureaucrats who mourn the loss of Astoria, despite many working from home this year.  Not because of Covid really, but that they were perfectly capable of hiding the fact they do such little work. The much loved cafe scene of Wellington has been slowly dying, killed off, well by themselves really. Early this year, before the world turned coward, so desperate was I to avoid Wellington completely that I ordered an Uber to come and pick me up from the airport and take me over the hill to see friends in the lovely town of Martinborough.  I did not wish to go near the centre of Wellington town (and it is a town) and perish the thought, wait a ridiculously amount of time get on a train. But other than the Pravda chees

Stuff Finally Allows Debate on Climate - As Long As You Are Maori

Image
In September I wrote about the attempted Brown Lives Matter coup at Waikato University.  There has yet to be an update as Wira and Hekia are running up the hours.  In the piece I profiled a noted Maori astronomer who argued clocks were a symbol of colonial oppression making it all the more amusing Maori MP's lately have taken to wearing hats in Parliament.  A most English of tradition. Well roll on another month and another example.  This time we have a chap called Dr Dan Hikuroa, a senior lecturer in the Maori Department at the University of Auckland.  First show stopper.  Stuff appears to have dumped journos and replaced them with stenographers. "As told"?  Is this Eloise's get out of jail free card when people like myself read this, put their hands in the head and wonder what the hell s/he was on about? So Dr Dan wishes to apply Maori thinking to climate change.  No harm in that so let us roll with it.  Remember this week however that Jacinda Ardern in her Climate

Waka Kotahi - Slow Canoe To Nowhereville

For those of us outside of New Zealand with their drivers licenses expiring this year, a dilemma has arose.  We could not get back to New Zealand, thanks to the ridiculous border policy, to get the renewal.   There is however a facility online to extend your license a year. Perfect.   The valid NZ license runs to any international license so needs to be kept up to date. You can’t renew or upgrade your driver licence from overseas. But you can replace your driver licence if it has been lost, misplaced or stolen. You can also get a replacement driver licence from overseas if your licence is due to expire, or has been expired for less than 12 months, and you want to extend the expiry date. You can apply to extend the expiry date for 12 months from the original expiry date. This can only be done once: after that, you have to renew your licence in person. So after completing the necessary formalities and COURIERING the originals back (why as you have all the details from the last license?),

If Only The NZ Public Knew How Fake Robbo's Cash Was

Image
Wayne Lynch drove up from Palmerston North, hoping the $120 he spent on petrol would be more than compensated by the cash giveaway. He realised that wasn’t the case when he caught his first two notes and spotted they were fake. Instead of legal tender, the “cash” gives the bearer 30 per cent off orders from The Safety Warehouse, which sells PPE online. Lynch said he’s now stranded in Auckland with no money to get back home. He was also hurt in the crush of the crowd, he said. “I was stomped on, when they were throwing the money I had a whole pile of people on top of me.” So a man spent $120 certain that he was going to trample and stomp all over thousands of others to get more than $240 back so he could then drive back to Palmerston North.  Right.......  With logic like that he should immediately be promoted to senior analyst at Adrian Orr's Reserve Bank or Comms director in Grant Robertson's office.  At least The Safety Warehouse giveaway did not dilute purchasing power or i

D'Arcy Waldegrave Takes Both Knees - I Shall Not

Image
D’Arcy almost went there.  He almost did. This here was such a needed column.   D’Arcy has opened the gateways to a "conversation" we all need to have in sports. D'Arcy then remembered he had to pay the rent/mortgage/child support/kids.  He remembered the woke twitter bullies.  He remembered his own family. He didn't quite tell the whole truth. And did not wish to be cancelled. I have no such worries as I have subjected myself to enough of the bastardisation of politically correct commentary already this summer. So I shall write up a post of the few worthy and many worthless contributions thus far to the sporting seasons. I mourn back to the loss of Henry Blofeld.  Along with Coney/Waddle/Smith when the team were fabulous.    Hadlee, Crowe (RIP).    Mark Reason had a good go at explaining this.   Since then we have taken a giant leap backwards.  Richie Benaud has died, Blowers is grounded, #metoo took care of Boycott. Gower and Botham were nuked.  There is no substitu

Stuff Means - White Staff At Victoria University About To Be Given The Chop

Image
This is the not-so-PC headline for what Stuff trotted out instead.  From the "we could have told you so" pile, unionised University white staff are about to get a big brown envelope from University in favour of keeping underemployed staff in charge of wombat subjects in Maori departments. That is right.  This is exactly what is meant by vice-Chancellor Guilford's careful comments here: At the staff Christmas party on Tuesday, Grant Guilford said that before February 2021 the university needed access to international students, a significant increase in domestic enrolments, and a strong uptake in the staff voluntary redundancy scheme . “At present, none of those three things are looking particularly promising .” he told the assembled staff. “Very unfortunately, therefore, it’s looking increasingly likely that to fulfil our commitments to kaitiakitanga and intergenerational responsibility, we will be facing hard decisions early next year.” In real person speak, let us have

New Zealand 2020 Race Relations Today As Described By Wiremu Workman

Image
This is young Wiremu.  He posted this glorious expletive rant after missing out on a job as a truckie because of his past.  He did his time, paid the price and is expecting to get a job as a truck driver. Fortunately Wiremu now happily has a job which is great, good on him.  It’s hard when you’ve been in jail for drug supply to then be trusted to be given a job driving trucks all around the place. He’s done well.   However his is a cautionary tale about paying plenty out for your past and still having to deal with it today.  Many New Zealanders do not have the luck of Wiremu and seem to not be able to do the time and pay for the alleged crime.  He starts with: "In July I got parole “I didn’t fuck up”, what’s the month now, November?" More than 20 years ago - When the fine was $1b "I was working hard to get my truck licence back that cost me $1800 to fast track learners to class 4." Finlayson hurried to get through the back end of the sentence "It took some ti

Stuff Values - Alcohol Is All Bad - Unless It Is Sponsored Content!

Image
Stuff has a more than obvious incoming series from public health wowsers looking at how bad the results of "crate day" are on society.  Alarmist comment follows: Last Saturday the ED saw five people with alcohol-related injuries. On crate day in 2018 there were 29, while at last year’s event there were 23 injuries. Huge, how will they cope with all those beds kept aside for the next Covid outbreak! Stuff found all the wowsers and put them together in one piece.  They want the event banned. Pearson is among a group including ED staff, police, councils, Māori health advocates and public health workers who would like the event banned. I bet. However Stuff then has a section "food and wine".   Littered with dubiously confusing potential sponsored content, that is right, for food, wine and beer. Giant puff piece follows. Then this.  A plug. And if you stop there you will not see this. What? Paid content........No apparently that leads to the content below that. Yay, booz
