How Bad Is The Health Ministry Really?

It has taken ONE week for them to convene an emergency crisis meeting over the Waikato DHB hack? The DHB's IT system crashed last Tuesday after a sophisticated cyber attack left staff at Waikato, Thames, Taumarunui, Tokoroa and Te Kuiti hospitals reverting back to manual processes to run its services. On Monday night people claiming to be the hackers contacted media outlets saying they had given the Waikato DHB one more day to respond. The group claiming responsibility for the attack claimed it had accessed confidential patient notes, staff details and financial information. Really? Last week there were astonishing claims from officials downplaying the possibility that private data had been taken. How much cash is being spent on IT geniuses to keep something as private as patient data in hospitals?  To keep IT systems going? "The crisis response to the ransomware attack on the Waikato DHB has been stepped up . The Ministry of Health is increasing its resourcing of the dedicate

China Now Just Playing Word Soup With Nanaia

Never let it be said that the Chinese do not have a sense of humour that they diplomatically can get away with because of the excuses of being lost in translation. “We hope New Zealand can carry forward the spirit of ‘striving to be the first’ and the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, work with China towards the same direction, make the pie of co-operation bigger, rise above external distractions, and jointly advance China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership,” he said. I have however in almost 15 years working in and around Asia never heard the words "pie of co-operation" used before. Snigger. China 1 Mahuta

The Food Chain Cannot Be Messed With - Australia Now Needs Its Cats

I am a cat person, never cared much for dogs and I have sensible, yet highly unpopular opinions on dog ownership.  Dogs are for farms and people with land for the dog to move around on.  Years living in Hong Kong taught me that there is nothing more selfish than owning anything other than a dog the size of a cat when you have an apartment or a very small dog with any inner city property that has small backyard confines.  Dogs are meant to run around and exercise.  Modern day dog ownership has become an exercise in human vanity where it has become more one of keeping the owner company than about the dog.  The anti-cat brigade around the world in the meantime have caused the cull of many feral cats which in turn has caused mice to run rampant.  NSW being the latest to suffer such indignity. The plague of mice attacking parts of Australia is turning into a horror story, with the rodents threatening to invade Sydney, reports of the vermin eating their own, and the farming industry being th
